The Council of Mosques – Tower Hamlets (CoM-TH) held its Annual General Meeting and election of a new executive committee on Saturday, 18 October 2025, at the London Muslim Centre. Representatives from member mosques and community leaders attended the event, which was conducted in a cordial and democratic atmosphere.
The activities of CoM-TH was highlighted by the Secretary General and guests were directed towards the recently published Activities Report January 2024 to March 2025 for further details.
The election was overseen by Executive Mayor Lutfur Rahman, who served as Chief Election Commissioner.

Key Messages from the Meeting
Mayor Lutfur Rahman said:
“Our community must stand together against hatred and division. What we showed in Whitechapel on 25 October was unity in action – that is our real strength.”
Maulana Shamsul Haq, the newly elected Chairman, remarked:
“The Council of Mosques is not only a religious organisation; it is a platform for community service and moral guidance. We will continue to work with all mosques to promote peace and good citizenship.”
Sirajul Islam Hira, Secretary General, said:
“Our priority is to build stronger cooperation among mosques and to address issues affecting young people, families and the wider community.”
Abdul Munim Jahedi Karol, Treasurer, added:
“We aim to ensure transparency, accountability and effective coordination in every initiative the Council undertakes.”
Conclusion
The successful election on 18 October 2025 reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to unity, democracy and public service. With a refreshed leadership, CoM-TH aims to deepen collaboration among local mosques, strengthen its engagement with civic partners, and advance both the spiritual and social wellbeing of the whole Borough and wider society.
