Iftar with Your Neighbours – Bringing Communities Together This Ramadan
This Ramadan, mosques across the area are opening their doors to local neighbours for a series of special Iftar evenings — a meal shared at the end of a day’s fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
Organised in partnership with the Council of Mosques and the Islam Awareness Project, each evening brings together Muslim and non-Muslim residents for a warm and welcoming experience. Guests are greeted by staff and volunteers before hearing a welcome from the mosque and an introduction to Ramadan and its significance, before sharing in the traditional breaking of fast with dates and water, followed by a communal meal — a simple but powerful moment of togetherness.
The initiative reflects the commitment of our local mosques to building bridges with the wider community, offering neighbours a genuine and meaningful insight into Muslim faith and practice.
The participating mosques this Ramadan are Shoreditch Mosque, Wapping Noorani Masjid & Cultural Centre, Poplar Shahjalal Mosque, Stepney Shahjalal Mosque & Cultural Centre, and Shadwell Jame Masjid. If you would like to invite a non-Muslim neighbour to one of these Iftar evenings, please contact your local mosque directly to make arrangements.
Pictures from each event will be added here as the evenings take place throughout Ramadan.
