On Thursday 27 August, the Council of Mosques – Tower Hamlets hosted a Meet Your Neighbours community event behind Al Aqsa Masjid on Launch Street.
The event was organised to foster community spirit, togetherness and positive relationships between local residents. Open to people of all faiths and none, it provided an inclusive and welcoming space for the wider community.
Attendance was excellent, with over 300 local residents joining throughout the afternoon. Families and friends enjoyed a range of activities, including free food, a bouncy castle and henna, creating an enjoyable environment for residents of all ages.
A number of key Tower Hamlets services and community organisations also attended, giving residents valuable information, advice and opportunities to engage with local support. These included:
- Tower Hamlets Public Health
- Social Action for Health
- Tower Hamlets Hate Crime Team
- Tower Hamlets Employment Team
The information and advice stalls gave residents the chance to speak directly with service providers, find out more about support available locally, and raise any concerns or issues affecting them and their families.
Overall, the day offered an excellent opportunity for neighbours to meet, build relationships and strengthen community connections. It also demonstrated the positive impact of partnership working between the Council of Mosques, Al Aqsa Masjid, Tower Hamlets Council teams and local community organisations.
